Toyota Reach Hybrid Vehicle Millionth Sales


TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Toyota Motor(NYSE:TM) Corp said it has sold more than one million gas-electric hybrid vehiclesglobally since it rolled out the world's first mass-produced hybrid car, the 'Prius' sedan.


The vehicle was first sold in Japan in 1997 and then in North America, Europe and elsewhere from 2000.By the end of last month, a total of 1.047 mln Prius sedans and other hybrid cars, had been sold in more than 40 countries and regions, it said.


Toyotais currently seeking to boost its range of hybrid models and to cut production costs as it targets annual sales of 1 mln hybrid vehicles by the early part of the 2010's, it added.


Last month Toyota launched two new hybridsedan models, the 'LS600h' and the 'LS600hL' with a combined sales target of 7,000 units by the end of this year.
